YELLOW EVERYONE!
FEAR NOT!
Ini bukan curhat hahaha!
Just a quick one because it's 1 hour to long weekend WOHOO! picking up my mom soon!
Earlier today, during my morning devo, I arrived at John 21, the passage is about that one time where Peter and the some other dudes went fishing and unfortunately, despite the fact that this was their area of expertise, toiled all night and caught nothing. T'hat's when the resurrected Jesus told the disciples to throw in their net to the 'right side' (pun intended. but seriously tho).
Ok I'll copy paste some verses from John 21 NKJV version. WHY NKJV?
Because I love how the passage was called: BREAKFAST BY THE SEA.
One time I was on Great Ocean Road trip and the tour's first stop was somewhere nearby a big lake (almost like a sea for a noob like me wkwkw) and they prepared some hot drinks and sandwiches and it was one breakfast to be remembered forever. The cold wind combined by the beautiful scenery and the hot tea and of course, best companion ever for a third-wheeler *wink to Ko Rai and Ci Gil wkwk.
ANYWAY.
What I'm trying to say is.. I bet Jesus served the best best best breakfast by the sea ever. Haha.
Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”
They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately[a] got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.
At least 3 people in this group were fishermen : Peter, James and John (sons of Zebedee).
But still, they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?”
They answered Him, “No.”
I bet Jesus knew exactly that THERE WAS NO FOOD! Wkwkw typical Jesus, asking questions that provokes us to admit our limitations. In this case, limitation of skill to provide for food.
6 And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.
Maybe the fishermen thought, "Well, nothing to lose here.." They tried one more time and VOILA!
Multitude of fish! Too much too haul in to boat!
Now. That's when the passage get more interesting.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea.
BUT BUT BUT BUT. Why, Peter?? See, he was the one initiating the fishing trip. He might be thinking of having some fish and chips for breakfast haha. But when FINALLY there were fish in the net, he was the one who left! I've read from MSG :
7 Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore.
So Peter did not just 'left'. He did not just 'plunged into the sea' with no reason.
In fact, Peter heard that THERE WAS JESUS ON THE SHORE! HIS BELOVED JESUS!
So he immediately put on his shirt and swam, headed to the shore where Jesus was.
I read this story so many times. From Sunday school till now haha.
But I never realized the magnitude of this moment.. where Peter left the boat and his potential big breakfast material.. for Jesus.
He abandoned everything he wanted. Everything he needed!
For Jesus.
This Peter. Peter who asked Jesus, "If it was you, can I walk to you." ignoring the fact that he would have to walk on water, just to get closer to Jesus.
Peter, the impulsive Peter who did not think much of the consequences of his action.
Peter who did not only love Jesus, he ACT OUT his love.
Lanjut.
8 But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. 9 Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.
You see. You think you're hungry and you need some 'fish'. But before the fish even caught, Jesus has prepared THE FIRE, THE COALS, BREAD, SOME FISH (wkwkwkwk see He has everything! He provided everything! But unless you're there on the seas to do some fishing, you might miss out this feast He has prepared for you. So it is not YOUR strength rather than your AVAILABILITY for Him.)
10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.”
Maybe this was when startrucked Peter remember, "OH MAN! I FORGOT MY FISH!" WKWK
11 Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken.
You know what? I am amazed.
Whatever comes from God will not be wasted, and can never be stolen from you!
Peter might leave what he has to meet Jesus on the shore, but God ensure that his portion of fish is still THERE. Which reminds me how once God told me to let go of my family problems, my work things, etc to focus on what He has entrusted to me, the ministry. And sure enough, when I focused on His calling, HE REALLY TAKEN CARE OF THE REST! I AM LACK NOTHING! Wow God!
And another thing is.. The blessing that comes from God, WILL NEVER BREAK YOU.
That's why He will ensure that your character is fully proven, tested by fire, that whatever He will entrusted in the future, they will not break your spirit! Ga jadi songong or belagu or take God for granted gitu, ngerti kan? wkwkwkwkw.
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.” Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?”—knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.
WOW GOD WOW!
When I am too afraid to take what He offers me, the Father came and make me took the provision He knows I need.. This realization brings me comfort! I will never miss out on Him.. because He never missed out on me! WOW GOD. WOW.
Ok. Weekend awaits!
I LOVE YOU, GOD! YOU ARE THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME!
